Groupings of fungal bodies are modelled after lingzhi, a polypore organism associated with life-giving immortality. The disbursement of spores — a twin etymological root to diaspora — replicates the movement patterns of the immigrant nomad.
The body functions as the site of convergence between private and collective memory, the immigrant as a conduit from the collective archive. Voicemails between family members overlap one another in a narrative of deterioration and illness, and the silence elongates into nonresponse. The sound works are preserved here as transcripts.
